Detective Speaking is a game you play by talking. This page explains, in plain words, what that means for your information.

Who we are

Detective Speaking is run by Worbee EOOD, Sofia, Bulgaria, which is the data controller for the game and this website. For anything about your data, write to rob@worbee.com.

What we collect, and why

  • Your email address, to create your account and send sign-in codes. We need it to provide the game you signed up for.
  • Your game progress, including the text of what you said in each game, so you can stop and resume, and so we can fix cases that misunderstand players.
  • Usage records such as game starts, completions and the cost of each game, to keep the service running and fair. This is in our legitimate interest in running and improving the game.
  • Technical logs such as IP address and browser, kept briefly for security and to fix errors.
  • Purchases, handled by our payment provider (see below). We never see your card details.

Your voice

When you speak, your browser sends the audio to our speech-recognition provider to be turned into text. We do not store recordings of your voice. The characters’ voices, and the detective voices in our samples, are recorded in advance; nothing you say is used to generate speech.

Who helps us run the game

  • Cloudflare hosts this website, provides DNS and protects the service from abuse.
  • [Game server host, for example Hetzner Online GmbH, Germany] runs the game and stores accounts and saved games.
  • OpenAI turns your speech into text.
  • TypeSafe AI, Inc. (Jev) receives the text of what you said, and the game dialogue so far, to work out what you meant. It does not receive your email address.
  • An email delivery provider [name] sends sign-in codes.
  • Paddle processes purchases as the merchant of record, once purchases are available.

Some of these companies process data outside the European Economic Area. Where they do, we rely on the European Commission’s standard contractual clauses or an equivalent safeguard.

How long we keep it

  • Your account and saved progress: until you delete your account.
  • The text of what you said in a game: up to 180 days after you finish or leave that game.
  • Usage records: up to 180 days.
  • Technical logs: a short period, only as long as needed for security and fixing errors.

Cookies, storage and statistics

This website sets no cookies. Your sound and voice preferences are stored in your own browser and never sent to us. Signing in to play sets one essential cookie on play.detectivespeaking.com so you stay signed in. We count visits with Umami, which we host ourselves at s.worbee.com in the EU; it does not use cookies or follow you across sites.

Your rights

If you are in the EU/EEA, the UK or another place with comparable laws, you can ask to see, correct, export, restrict or delete your data, or object to how we use it, by writing to rob@worbee.com. You can delete your account from your account page at any time. You can also complain to a data protection authority; in Bulgaria that is the Commission for Personal Data Protection.
